about
Spirits Of The Revolution was written by Larry Estridge in the late 60’s in protest of the Vietnam War and I woke up with it stuck in my head one morning when we were quarantining/record making at Chris Maxwell’s Goat House Studio in Woodstock, NY. While getting levels that day, I went and sang it into the mic, and Maxwell, sly fox that he is, caught it with a sneaky tap on the record button and now here it is in all it’s one take glory. It made cry cry cry, so singing it twice wasn’t an option, you see.
Here at Eye Knee, 100% of the proceeds from one of every ten releases will belong to the communities, in hopes of shining a little light on the goodness and the kindness and all that shit we love. Today, we are shining on the gardens of Abundance Farms. Their mission is to provide BIPOC with fresh and pesticide free produce. At no charge. No strings attached. They are real ones, giving all they’ve got to make things in this sad and beautiful world a little bit kinder. The deeper you dig, the more gardens they can(see what I did there?). Seriously though, GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY.
lyrics
We who are the spirits of the revolution, we will not fit in and we will not give in.
We who are the spirits of the revolution, we will not fit in and we will not give in.
We who've come to understand more of the horror, we will not fit in, we will not give in.
We who are indelibly bourgeois and refuse to be so are increasing aware.
We are unleashing powers move towards light.
We are experiencing tragedy in the unending cycles of destruction.
We who gamble with our lives.
We who are the spirits of the revolution, we will not fit in and we will not give in.
We who are the spirits of the revolution, we will not fit in and we will not give in.
We who believe in the flowering of freedom, we will not give in, we will not fit in.
We who are thirsty for greater knowledge.
We who walk the night this side of desperation.
We who are thirsty and looking for better ways to proceed.
We who tremble and proceed.
We who are the spirits of the revolution, we will not fit in and we will not give in.
We who are the spirits of the revolution, we will not fit in and we will not give in.
We who are wise enough to continue learning, we will not fit in, we will not give in.
We who find brothers and sisters in the struggling people of this world.
We who are coming to understand more of the mysteries.
We are coming to see more of the realities.
We who have met the beast within ourselves.
We who are the spirits of the revolution, we will not fit in and we will not give in.
We who are the spirits of the revolution, we will not fit in and we will not give in.
We who are able to go beyond our anger, we will not fit in and we will not give in.
We who are able to go beyond our arc.
We who are not content to admit despair.
We who care, we who burn, we who struggle with the knowledge that the path is long.
We who are the spirits of the revolution, we will not fit in and we will not give in.
We who are the spirits of the revolution, we will not fit in and we will not give in.
We who’s radiance is a wonder in life, we will not fit in, we will not give in.
We who’s anger can not be conquered.
We who’s love cannot be bound.
We who are the singers of the new morning.
We who’s tears have freely flowed.
We who are the spirits of the revolution, we will not fit in and we will not give in.
